South Dakota Allied Health Training Consortium – Innovate. Educate. Enhance.

Over the next two years, the South Dakota Allied Health Training Consortium will work together with rural health care facilities and communities to develop and expand innovative training programs to increase the number of adults earning certificates, degrees, and diplomas.

Beginning in the Fall of 2015, Southeast Technical Institute will offer Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) classes for the Pierre area.  This 21-month program will prepare professionals to provide direct patient care in a variety of health care settings. Students enrolled in the Pierre area cohort will become knowledgeable in giving medications, assisting with activities of daily living, and performing many other duties necessary for patient treatment. Classes for the Pierre area cohort will require day time commitments of up to 3 days a week and occasional travel to Sioux Falls and other rural locations for specific clinicals.

Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN and be licensed as an LPN after approval by the Board of Nursing in their state of residence. Students who are not South Dakota residents or South Dakota residents who are seeking employment outside South Dakota should contact that state’s Board of Nursing for any additional requirements.

Background checks, drug screenings and a CNA are required for this program. Please see Licensed Practical Nursing Handbook   and the Health Student Handbook  for additional/adjusted rules, regulations and policies regarding your program.

Note: This program requires light travel which may include traveling back and forth to Pierre and several weeks to Sioux Falls and other rural locations for clinicals.  Please contact Admissions for details.
