Cardiovascular Sonography is an imaging technology modality that plays an important role in the diagnosis of forms of heart disease, arterial disease, venous disease, and cerebrovascular disease. A Cardiovascular Sonographer obtains structural, functional, and hemodynamic information about the Cardiovascular system for interpretation by a Cardiologist, Vascular Surgeon, Radiologist, or Interventional Radiologist. Cardiovascular Sonographers have a deep understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics of the heart and arteries and veins throughout the body, as well how to assess pathologies seen throughout the cardiovascular system. Our Cardiovascular Sonography Program provides hands-on scanning opportunities with an academic curriculum in cardiovascular sonography principles, technology, ultrasound physics and instrumentation.
Clinical Affiliation: Students will be placed in a clinical internship with one of our clinical affiliates for 7 months in various medical centers throughout the United States. If a student does not complete specialty Cardiovascular Sonography courses in three consecutive semesters, faculty and administration will determine whether courses must be repeated before enrolling in the clinical internship.
Background checks and drug screenings are required for this program. Please see the Cardiovascular Policy Handbook and the Academic Handbook for the Healthcare Programs for the additional/adjusted rules, regulations, and policies regarding the Cardiovascular Sonography Program.
SSS 100 Student Success class will be required of students who are not transferring in 9 college credits from an accredited institution.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS: This degree is a Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL) program. You may purchase a laptop on your own or from the Southeast Tech IT Support Center.
