Landscape Design Technology, AAS


Upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Landscape Design Technology, a student will be able to:

Science and Technology

  • Utilize the proper safety procedures for the setup and operation of various types of equipment.
  • Choose procedures, tools and equipment to complete work assignments.
  • Apply plant identification knowledge in landscape installation projects.
  • Draft planview blueprints of landscape projects.
  • Install landscape projects by reading blueprints drawn by students.
  • Locate, understand, and interpret information found in plans, blueprints, manuals, graphs, and schedules.
  • Recognize, organize, and process symbols, pictures, and diagrams that are pertinent to this field.

  Problem Solving/Critical Thinking

  • Identify and apply trouble shooting techniques to plant health problems.
  • Evaluate a service situation and choose the best corrective measure.
  • Utilize time management skills to complete work as scheduled.
  • Choose procedures, tools or equipment to complete work assignments.
  • Assess landscape site characteristics and develop solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of construction materials options.

 Professionalism

  • Demonstrate understanding, friendliness, politeness to coworkers, as well as customers.
  • Present a positive attitude toward the work environment regardless of situation.
  • Utilize time management skills to complete work as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate reliability (attendance, punctuality and follow through).
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a team leader.
  • Complete client projects in a timely manner.

 Communication

  • Locate, understand, and interpret information found in plans, blueprints, manuals, graphs, and schedules.
  • Respond to verbal directions and or messages necessary to perform tasks pertinent to this career.
  • Communicate project details to the client.
  • Communicate and relate professionally with co-workers.
  • Apply telephone etiquette when calling suppliers and clients.
  • Write clear work orders.
