Instructor and student with laptop and auxiliary monitor reviewing CAD design

ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE TRANSFER DEGREE: This degree is designed for students transferring to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to pursue an advanced degree in Civil Engineering. Requirements may vary at other institutions so students should become familiar with the specific course requirements of the four-year institution to which they plan to transfer.

Civil Engineering, the original engineering discipline, involves the design, construction, and maintenance of vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, utility systems and buildings.  Civil Engineering Technicians perform an essential role as they work alongside land surveyors and engineers performing technically advanced tasks. These challenging tasks include surveying with robotic and GPS instruments, preparing construction documents with 3D CAD software, testing construction materials for specification compliance and also performing various support calculations for drainage, earthwork, pavement and utility layouts and land surveys.

A challenging and rewarding career begins with the Civil Engineering Technology program.  A career that allows you to be a part of the survey, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure projects from concept through completion.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS: This degree requires students to purchase a Southeast Tech laptop from the Southeast Tech IT Support Center.
