Software Support Specialist, Diploma

A Software Support Specialist loads software packages such as operating systems, word processors, or spreadsheet programs into a computer. They answer client inquiries in person and via telephone concerning systems operation; diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems; and recommend or perform actions to correct problems based on the knowledge of system operations.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of a Diploma in Software Support Specialist, a student will be able to:
Science & Technology
- Understand and demonstrate basic computer constructs.
- Understand and demonstrate proficiency in the following languages: Java, C#, PHP, HTML, SQL
- Demonstrate proficiency using a variety of integrated development environment (IDE) applications. (Visual Studio, Websphere, Dreamweaver)
- Demonstrate proficiency using relational databases.
- Understand and demonstrate proficiency in the following DBMS (Database Management Systems): Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL
- Understand and demonstrate proficiency using object oriented programming concepts.
Problem Solving/Critical Thinking
- Demonstrate the ability to break down the logic needed to solve a problem using computer programs.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and in teams to achieve established goals.
Professionalism
- Exhibit professional and ethical behavior.
- Seek membership in professional organizations.
- Demonstrate the ability to research and present information on a given IT topic.
Communication
- Demonstrate proficiency in written communication.
- Demonstrate professional verbal skills through oral presentations.

*Students interested in completing a two year AAS degree should take ENGL 101 in place of COMM 102 and register for Computer Programming, AAS Degree.
