Respiratory Therapist, AAS

Upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Therapist, a student will be able to:

Technical Skills

• Demonstrate the ability to set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilators.
• Interpret ventilator data and demonstrate the ability to make adjustments.

Problem Solving/Critical Thinking

• Apply ethical principles and legal guidelines in solving dilemmas related to patient care, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
• Apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills to assess, diagnose, respond, and reflect regarding patients with diverse respiratory conditions.

Professionalism

• Foster positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members while demonstrating professionalism through effectual communication as well as presentation and appearance.
• Demonstrate compliance with industry regulations, legal requirements, and ethical considerations.

Communication

• Develop comprehensive patient care plans that are logically organized and include supporting materials and resources.
• Deliver effective communication using clarity, language precision, timing, and sensitivity.
