Recognized as one of the “20 Top Cardiovascular Technology Educators” by MedicalTechnologySchools.com, Patrick Hoier is the director and lead instructor in the Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program. He began teaching at Southeast Tech in 2007, and prior to that he was the developer and lead instructor of the Invasive Program at BryanLGH College of Health Sciences in Lincoln Nebraska.
Patrick received his board certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) through the Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute. Has was awarded the advanced practice credential Registered Cardiovascular Specialist Assistant from International Council of Cardiovascular Specialists and Assistants (ICCCSA), and received the Certified Trainer, Assessor and Examiner credential for simulation examinations by the same council. He has also been awarded the Fellowship of the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (FSICP).
Patrick has extensive experience in invasive cardiovascular technology, specifically interventional and electrophysiology procedures. He is a frequent presenter and speaker at national and international cardiovascular conferences; including TCT, NCVH, and SCAI. He has facilitated and presented at many RCIS review courses for the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP).
Patrick has had several articles published in the Cathlab Digest and the Pulse Magazine. He has authored a chapter for the textbook “Invasive Cardiology: a Manual for Cath Lab Personnel”. In addition, he was featured as the “10 Minute Interview” feature in the Cathlab Digest, and in 2015 he was identified as one of the “20 Top Cardiovascular Technology Educators” by MedicalTechnologySchools.com. Patrick served as the President of the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals from 2014 – 2016, and is an active member of the society.
Patrick’s philosophy of education can be summed up in these following statements: “Each student brings unique talents, strengths, and abilities into their educational experience. It is the responsibility of the instructor to assist and guide each student as they learn how to best utilize these talents and abilities in order to reach their full potential”. In regards to the role of the educator in medical education; Patrick’s philosophy is “Medical education is a unique form of training in which the outcome and ability of each student has a direct effect on the well-being of their communities; both during their training and after they graduate. It is the responsibility of the instructor to balance the student’s progression in education along with ensuring the safety and health of the community as a whole”.
Patrick is the father of five children that are the focus of most of his free time. When not chasing around his children, Patrick enjoys reading, playing board games (of which he owns over 175), studying philosophy and writing / developing online video series.
