Janet is the Clinical Coordinator for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and has served Southeast Tech students for more than a decade, taking an active role in their healthcare education. She has over 30 years of professional experience including Diagnostic Imaging Technology in Radiography and Sonography.
Janet began her career in healthcare graduating from Sanford USD Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology. She is registered in Radiography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). She also holds credentials with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and is registered in Obstetrical/Gynecological, Abdominal, and Breast Sonography. She earned her Baccalaureate degree in Health Care Management from Bellevue University and holds a post-secondary instructor credential from the South Dakota Board of Education. Janet is a current member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and the South Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologists.
She is very passionate about quality education standards for her students with a willingness to provide guidance in the classroom, lab and clinical settings.

Joining Southeast Tech in 2002, Jo Ellen worked to build the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program from its start, and facilitated the program’s initial and continuing CAAHEP accreditation. She continues to implement changes in the program, ensuring students receive current information and standards in the sonographic profession.
Jo Ellen has extensive health care experience involving direct patient care and leadership positions, starting as a Radiological Technologist and transitioning into Sonography. She is an ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist and an ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Jo Ellen has served the South Dakota Society of Radiologic Technologist in various capacities, including newsletter editor, secretary, president and chairperson of the board. She has served as a Sonography chapter delegate to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. She is also a member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Jo Ellen has organized several regional continuing medical education seminars, occasionally presenting lectures.
Jo Ellen loves sonography, in particular its integration of constantly changing technology with the entire life span and varying physiology of the human body. She has a passion for excellence in sonography and professionalism, and holds high expectations for the students in the DMS program, keeping exceptional patient care as the primary focus. She sees the role of an educator as one who is a role model of the profession and provides information, guidance, and encouragement, -the tools, helping students to accomplish their goals and become excellent sonographers.
