BHT 220 - Human Behavior in the Social Environment: Child, Adolescent, and Family Systems 3 Credit Hours This course explores and applies theoretical frameworks influencing development and socialization from conception through adolescence. Using ecological systems theory, attachment theory, trauma-informed perspectives, and contemporary research, this course explores how individual development is influenced by family systems, peer networks, schools, communities, and culture. Students will analyze factors that promote healthy development as well as risks—such as trauma, adversity, and systemic inequities—that impact behavioral health. Emphasis in course content is placed on helping students understand youth and family functioning within the broader social environment context, preparing them to support children, adolescents, and families in effective ways.
Prerequisites: BHT 100 , BHT 110
