BHT 100 - Introduction to Behavioral and Mental Health Support

3 Credit Hours
This course will introduce mental and behavioral health concepts while exploring career and education pathways for Behavioral and Mental Health Technicians. Students will analyze programs and services offered throughout the system of care, including mental health and counseling, substance use, developmental and intellectual disability, and child, adult, and aging services. Students will gain knowledge in role definition, industry standards, trauma-informed approaches, patient-centered care, and ethics of professional relationships while learning about patient populations, practice settings, and family and community support. Students will develop self-awareness and boundaries, analyze the helping relationship, and develop therapeutic communication skills.
