BHT 120 - Therapeutic Communication and Interactional Skills 3 Credit Hours This course serves as an introduction to therapeutic communication and interactional skills for behavioral health professionals. Students will develop oral and written communication necessary to succeed in a variety of practice settings and will develop competency in forming therapeutic relationships. Techniques such as rapport building, active and reflective listening, personal space, and confidentiality will be explored. Students will understand the cycle of communication and will learn verbal and nonverbal communication techniques. Techniques such as motivational interviewing, multicultural communication, and Socratic questioning will be considered to enhance therapeutic communication excellence.
