BUS 236 - Property & Casualty Insurance 3 Credit Hours Property and Casualty Insurance provides protection against most risks to property, such as fire, theft and some weather damage. In this course, students will learn about different types of insurers, the elements of an insurance contract, general duties and responsibilities of agents, and key policy provisions. Some of the different types of policies include: homeowners, marine, automobile, liability, business, and workman’s compensation. Students will be introduced to basic concepts of property and liability insurance, what is normally covered, and what has to be endorsed onto a policy to receive additional coverage. This course will enhance understanding of insurance in general, especially as it pertains to the private consumer looking to protect his/her assets from liability and property damage exposure. For students seeking a career in becoming a trusted advisor to individuals seeking financial protection, their professional understanding of what insurance entails is vital and this course will assist them in understanding what role they will play in helping others protect their assets.
