Upon completion of a Diploma in Medical Assistant, a student will be able to:
Technical Skills
- Demonstrate competency with the use of equipment within the scope of practice of medical assisting.
- Illustrate OSHA regulation requirements of Standard Precautions when there is the possibility of contact with blood or bodily fluids when performing
patient testing.
- Apply HIPAA guidelines with regards to patient information and diagnoses.
- Perform patient screening using established protocols.
Problem Solving/Critical Thinking
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal test results.
- Incorporate critical thinking skills when performing patient assessment and show awareness of patient’s concerns.
Professionalism
- Demonstrate respect for individual diversity including gender, race, religion, age, economic status and appearance.
- Identify legal and ethical issues within the scope of practice for medical assistants.
- Recognize the impact personal ethics and morals have on the delivery of healthcare.
- Demonstrate consistent and compassionate care for a diverse patient population.
- Behave in an ethical manner that inspires patient and employer trust.
- Develop professional experience through volunteer opportunities in the community.
Communication
- Document patient information clearly and accurately.
