Behavioral and Mental Health Technician, AAS

Upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Behavioral and Mental Health Technician, a student will be able to:
Technical
- Engage in assessment and service delivery with clients, their families, and multidisciplinary human service professionals while evaluating services and resources available to patients and clients.
- Demonstrate the understanding of key concepts in behavioral health promotion, including human development, therapeutic communication, group dynamics, trauma-informed approaches, ethical decision-making stress management, and crisis intervention.
Problem Solving/Critical Thinking
- Apply critical thinking skills and demonstrate ethical decision-making through trauma-informed patient assessment and intervention.
- Identify and model examples of safe, ethical, and trauma-informed patient care while maintaining wellness and resiliency as a helping professional.
Professionalism
- Demonstrate effective helping behavior for individuals in mental health crisis or with suicidal ideation through Southeast Technical College values of diversity and equity, excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
- Build self-awareness and confidence as a behavioral health professional while strengthening understanding of bias, health equity, and cultural competence.
Communication
- Develop effective verbal and written communication in promotion of effective multidisciplinary patient care
- Engage in relationship-building strategies to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and a therapeutic practice rooted in lived experience.
