Welding, Certificate


Upon completion of a Certificate in Welding, a student will be able to:

Science & Technology
  • Gain proficiency in commonly used welding processes. (GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW)
  • Understand characteristics of various metals.
  • Understand how metal/material characteristics affect the welding process.
  • Understand the use and proper identification and selection of filler metals and electrodes.
  • Understand the use, selection and application of shielding gasses.
  • Determine weld quality and identify weld defects and discontinuities.
  • Understand and correctly apply American Welding Society (AWS) codes and specifications.
  • Implement proper and appropriate safety measures for any weld process.
  • Understand and apply weld symbols, blueprints and engineering drawings.
Problem Solving/Critical Thinking
  • Identify, isolate and solve issues leading to weld defects and discontinuities.
  • Properly adjust weld parameters of welding equipment to produce quality welds.
  • Identify weld defects and take proper steps to correct weld problems.
  • Determine the proper weld process and set-up for specific materials.
Professionalism
  • Maintain personal conduct in a manner that reflects well on the individual and the institution.
  • Treat customers, co-workers and the public with respect and understanding.
