4P13 Employee Satisfaction, Health, Safety, and Well-Being

Campus Climate Survey: Every two years STI conducts an employee satisfaction survey to determine the on-campus climate. The survey results are divided into two groups, faculty and staff, to help determine specific group needs and concerns. Results are then shared with all faculty and staff as well as the appropriate organizational teams for further analysis and development of action plans to address concerns and improve the on-campus climate. The survey helps the institute determine faculty, staff and administrator motivation and provides the institute the opportunity to make positive changes to the STI environment.

AQIP Campus Climate Team: STI uses an AQIP Campus Climate Team with representatives from staff, faculty and administration to improve motivation and campus climate at STI. This team meets monthly, reviews data associated with employee morale, develops action projects, and makes recommendations to administration to improve the campus climate and culture at STI.

Administrator Surveys: Because of the important role administration plays in the motivation of employees, STI also conducts surveys on two or three administrators each year. The information gathered through these surveys helps identify employee satisfaction and concerns and can help the administrator make adjustments to better motivate and serve employees. If appropriate, these changes become part of the administrator’s evaluation goals. The Superintendent reviews the evaluations of the President.

Department and Program Team Meetings: To further determine and improve employee motivation, STI administrators work directly with their staff to address issues and department or program concerns. If an issue or concern is beyond the area, or if it involves other areas, it is brought to the Administrative Team for discussion and action. The majority of daily operational issues are brought to and addressed by an immediate supervisor and are moved up the chain of command only if the concern warrants it.

Other Sources: The SFEA Union group for faculty, as well as other union-represented groups, may also raise key issues affecting motivation and present these to Administration.

During employee yearly evaluations, additional individual satisfaction feedback is gathered. Administration, along with institutional teams, can then use this information to make improvements and increase employee satisfaction.
