Diesel technicians use a variety of skills to prepare, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines. To keep engines running smoothly, a diesel technician uses test equipment to evaluate and troubleshoot running engines. From there, they determine what adjustments are necessary or what parts need to be replaced to restore the engine to top performance. In addition to the engines, diesel technicians also need comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, power trains, brakes, steering and suspensions, hydraulics, and air conditioning.
