Computer Network Security Technicians are responsible for the security of the computer network infrastructure and are responsible for protecting the network and the network-accessible resources from unauthorized access. Network Security Technicians will authenticate users, maintain firewalls, utilize intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and develop disaster recovery procedures and ensure business continuity. They may also be called upon to educate end-users about computer security, install security software, respond to cyber attacks, and, in some cases gather data and evidence to be used in prosecuting cyber crime.

On the job, Network Security professionals are often heavily involved with customer support, as well as system operations analysis. A strong working knowledge of the technology is necessary for success in this field.
