Health Pre-program Preparatory Coursework


Upon completion of the Health Pre-Program Preparatory Coursework, a student will be able to:

Science & Technology

  • Understand and apply time, stress and money management skills.
  • Understand the functions of the various healthcare professions at STI.
  • Understand and solve algebraic problems.
  • Understand applied physics and/or chemistry concepts and solve applied physics and/or chemistry problems.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of the natural sciences and apply scientific methods of inquiry to investigate the natural world.
  • Understand and identify the human anatomy and the various functions associated within it.
  • Recognize and use medical terms according to the body system.

Problem Solving/Critical Thinking

  • Develop academic skills including note-taking, reading, memory, test-taking, studying, and problem solving.
  • Understand and apply individual learning styles in the academic setting.
  • Use mathematical concepts to solve real world problems.
  • Use applied physics and/or chemistry concepts to solve real world problems.
  • Explain and apply the basic elements used to form medical words.

Professionalism

  • Learn how to handle academic situations effectively.
  • Describe and understand team dynamics and the characteristics of a healthy team.
  • Demonstrate healthcare professionalism.

Communication

  • Learn how to effectively communicate academic and personal needs in order to receive the necessary assistance.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate mathematical and applied physics and/or chemistry concepts.
