Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Abdominal/OB/Gyn (DMS), AAS

It is the goal of the Southeast Tech DMS program to prepare competent entry-level general (Abdominal/OB/Gyn) sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
Upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Abdominal/OB/Gyn (DMS), a student will be able to:
Technical Skills
- Optimize sonographic images using sonographic physics principles, including multi-dimensional imaging and Doppler techniques, in order to obtain
accurate diagnostic data.
- Safely operate sonographic equipment and implement corrective actions as needed.
Problem Solving / Critical Thinking
- Accurately recognize the sonographic appearance of normal and variant abdominal, superficial, obstetrical, and gynecological anatomy.
- Recognize pathology and correlate related physiology to acquire sonographic images and information for diagnostic interpretation.
Professionalism
- Defend and maintain ethical health care standards related to HIPAA.
- Interact within diverse situations and cultures with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Communication
- Articulate patient data necessary to provide optimal patient assessment, diagnoses, and care.
