Upon completion of a Certificate in Commercial Construction a student will be able to:

Science and Technology

• Understand safety requirements of commercial job sites
• Understand basic fundaments of commercial construction
• Understand principles of light metal frame construction
• Understand basics of red iron principles
• Understand essentials of pre-cast construction
• Provide an overview of heavy highway and municipal plans
• Understand the basics of surveying equipment and site layout
• Understand staking, using a level, and utilizing cut/fill stakes
• Understanding of use of steel in construction for tie bars, rebar and dowel bars

Problem Solving/Critical Thinking

• Review basics of a commercial site
• Review equipment used for commercial sites
• Review soil parameters such as cut/fill, slopes, compaction and general trench safety
• Review of construction materials including concrete/asphalt/soil and aggregate
