Construction, Pre-Apprenticeship

Upon completion of a Pre-Apprenticeship in Construction, a student will be able to display competence in the following:

Safety

• Understand and demonstrate safe jobsite working practices
• Understand and demonstrate safe operation of hand tools
• Understand and demonstrate safe operation of portable power tools
• Understand and demonstrate safe operation of stationary power tools
• Understand and demonstrate safe use of ladders and scaffolding

Pre-construction

• Demonstrate competency in mathematics required for the construction field
• Demonstrate the use of applicable measurement tools and systems
• Demonstrate the ability to read and understand basic blue prints
• Demonstrate the proper use of hand tools
• Demonstrate the proper use of portable power tools
• Demonstrate the proper use of stationary power tools
• Demonstrate the proper use of various types of construction fasteners

Construction

• Proper framing practices
• Proper roofing and shingling practices
• Proper flooring practices
• Proper practices for installing doors and windows
• Proper practices for the use of steel building materials (studs, etc.)
