When Jeff was concluding his 28-year career with the South Dakota Highway Patrol, he was hoping to find a new path that would allow him to remain connected to law enforcement as well as contribute to the future. Southeast Tech’s Law Enforcement Program was a perfect fit. Nine years later he still enjoys the chance to help people find a path in the career of public safety. Before entering the Highway Patrol, Jeff majored in Criminal Justice and Political Science at USD and is a graduate of the Highway Patrol’s Recruit Academy. During his career with the Highway Patrol Jeff’s assignments included patrol work, SWAT, field training officer, academy instructor in officer safety, firearms and self-defense. After promotions his assignments included commanding SWAT, and supervised auto theft, canines, aviation, executive protection, and the Highway Patrol’s academy. His last promotion to the rank of captain placed him in command of the district headquarters in Sioux Falls. He has held numerous certifications in several law enforcement related fields. In his career, Jeff received a Governor’s Award for impaired driver enforcement. He was a long-time member of the Highway Patrol’s pistol team. He still competes in police pistol competitions all over the country and has been awarded distinguished shooter awards in both the United States and Canada. Jeff often says, “Law enforcement isn’t a job, it isn’t a career it’s a way of life, in which you put the needs of others before your own. That’s not easy, but it’s rewarding.”
